The First Spanish Church of the Open Bible was founded in 1949 by Rev. Roberto Dominguez and his wife, Sister Adelina Dominguez. Their church was the very first Open Bible church established specifically to minister to Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. With a telephone directory in hand, Sister Adelina began calling everyone with a Hispanic surname in the area, inviting them to join their new congregation. Together, they also reached out to Spanish-speaking individuals working on farms and in agriculture, laying a strong foundation for this ministry.
The Dominguez family led the church until 1975. In 1976, Brother Rafael Cajigas and his wife, Rebecca Cajigas, accepted the call to pastor the First Spanish Church of the Open Bible, now located in Hialeah, Florida. Under Pastor Rafael's leadership, the church experienced tremendous growth. During his tenure, INSTE (the Theological Institute by Extension) classes were introduced, providing a robust biblical foundation for preparing church servants and leaders.
Pastor Rafael was known as a powerful communicator of God's Word and a talented psalmist. Guided by the Holy Spirit, he wrote numerous songs that continue to be sung in the church. After many years of dedicated service, he retired in 2013 due to health reasons.
In May 2013, Pastor David del Valle and his wife, Bernice del Valle, stepped into leadership. Pastor David, a North Seminary graduate with a background in urban missions and Hispanic ministries, had been serving in ministry since 1990. His vision was to lead the church with the love of Christ and to reach those who did not yet know the Lord. Pastor del Valle faithfully served until his retirement in July 2019.
Pastor Edgar and Abigail Figueroa took on the church's leadership in July 2019. Committed to the development of future leaders, they bring vibrant passion and contagious energy to every area of ministry. Their dedication to the church and their heart for service continue to guide and inspire the congregation.
